Midland Trail football preview: Pushing to make playoffs

Posted: Updated:
Midland Trail's football program is not lacking participation.  This year 40 kids came out to practice and for a Class A school, that's a good number.  But, 26 of those are first year players.

"We have a lot of young kids who seem to  be enthusiastic,  so if they step it up and we know what we're doing, it may take a game or two but hopefully they're going to catch on and we're going to be alright," said head coach Joe Dean.

The past two seasons the Patriots fell just short of the playoffs, both years being a bubble team that came up just short of a post season.

"For us, it's a big motivating factor, we really feel had we won one of a few games last year we would have been in the playoffs."

For quarterback Tristan White that's what drives him to work harder.

"That puts a lot of motivation behind me, to make it to the playoffs, I haven't seen that so I'm ready to go," said White.

The rest of the team would agree.

"Well I haven't been to the playoffs, we  just want to try, at least one time before we graduate," said senior A.J. Murdock.

Along with talent, Midland Trail is passionate, passionate to get better and go farther.

"We have a lot of heart," said senior Tristan Minor,  "there's a lot of guys that want to play and are good at what they do.  I think we have one of the best teams I have seen here in a while so we should be alright."

They'll start that playoff campaign in just two weeks as they travel to Independence on August 29th.
