Army Corps awards Huntington district

Posted: Updated:

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently awarded the Huntington District with two national awards: project delivery team of the year and innovation of the year.

The project delivery team of the year award was presented to the team at Bolivar Dam in Bolivar, Ohio. The team developed a major rehabilitation report along with a plan to reduce the risk of seepage at the dam.

The innovation of the year award was presented to the East Fork Bridge piling rehabilitation project. Corrosion had forced a partial closure and weight limit on the bridge at East Lynn Lake, but the team used composite materials and engineering principals to bring the bridge back to its designed capacity at less than half the cost.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment for the Huntington District Team, and a great credit to all of those involved in these projects,” said Huntington District Commander Col. Leon Parrott. “When you think of the thousands of projects in USACE at any given time, our team's selection for these awards attest to the professionalism and skill of our entire workforce.”

The annual awards for excellence were presented to 70 projects and individuals from around the world during the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Strategic Leaders Conference.
