Smoothies are a great way to promote a nutritious start to any day.  To further increase the nutritional value of any drink try adding a “shot” of one or more of the available herbal supplements found at your local Health Food store. These herbal supplements are not only alcohol and caffeine free but also help target the daily recommended dietary intakes for vitamins and minerals. And now a days there are a wide variety of supplements to choose from. Here are just a few examples of some of the more popular herbs:

  • St. John’s Wart: Helps ailments such as nervous disorders, depression, and neuralgia and kidney problems.
  • Ginkgo: Helps to improve short term memory loss.
  • Ginseng: Helps to promote energy from mental and nervous exhaustion.
  • Echinacea: Helps to increase and build the body’s immune system and resistance to infection.
  • Wild Yam: Helpful in eliminating the nausea of pregnant women.

So the next time you make that smoothie add a little extra “oomph” to it and help boost your body and mind.

Banana Shake
1 1/2c.Skim Milk
1 Peeled and Sliced Banana

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. For added flavor add ¼ tsp.vanilla extract and ¼ tsp.almond extract.

Fresh n’ Fruity Smoothie
2c. Pineapple Juice
3 Kiwi’s Peeled
2 Banana’s Peeled
2c.Crushed Ice

In blender combine all ingredients and blend until smooth.

Passion Smoothie
½ Crushed Mango
1 Crushed Passion Fruit
½ Crushed Banana
1 freshly Squeezed Orange
Low Fat Yogurt of Choice

Combine all ingredients in blender and blend to smooth consistency.

Veggie Fruit Combo
1 Mango Cubed
7-8 Strawberries
Carrot Juice

Combine mango and carrot juice first in blender and blend, then add the strawberries and blend to desired consistency
