WV DEP investigates suspicious fire in South Charleston


West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection is on scene after what South Charleston Police are calling a suspicious fire.

According to WV DEP, herbicide, antifreeze, and possibly diesel fuel were all deposited as part of the fire. 

The WV DEP has set up booms to prevent leakage into Little Creek which flows into the Trace Fork

WV DEP says that there is no immediate threat, this is just precautionary action.



South Charleston Police say a maintenance building fire in South Charleston Thursday morning is suspicious.

According to dispatchers, the maintenance building is 50'x50' and was fully-engulfed on Fairway Drive in South Charleston next to Little Creek Park and caught fire around 4:30 a.m.

Our crew at the scene reports that the building was the maintenance building for the golf course at the Little Creek golf course.

Dispatchers say there was a diesel tank next to the unit. 

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

South Charleston Fire responded to the scene.

There is no word on what caused the fire at this time, but police are calling it suspicious.
