The campaign for the 3rd District Congressional District of West Virginia has not been as dirty as some of the campaigns that have been run in 2016. Incumbent Evan Jenkins (R) is opposed by Lewisburg native Matt Detch.
Detch spoke with business leaders in Beckley on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016 during the Rotary luncheon at the Black Knight Country Club. He said he wants to be the voice for West Virginians in Congress, and he thinks the people in southern West Virginia are tired of politicians.
“I don’t like the term politician,” said Detch. “I like aspiring public servant. I think that defines who I am a little bit more. It is about public service. It isn’t about why the other guy is a bad guy, because I think the American People are tired of it. They want to see something new.”
The Third Congressional District in West Virginia extends from Mason County to McDowell County and back up to Pocahontas County. Evan Jenkins has held the position for one term, after unseating long time U.S. Representative Nick Rahall.
