Alderson Broaddus University to Develop College of Optometry

Alderson Broaddus University has announced that the West Virginia State Office of the United States Department of Agriculture has favorably reviewed its application for a $54 million loan to develop a new College of Optometry.

Alderson Broaddus has been placed on probation by the Higher Learning Commission due to concerns over financial resources.

University President Dr. James Barry said the loan has no barring on the current financial situation and will move up the timeline for the university’s optometry program.

Barry said he and his staff reached a new forbearance agreement with the university’s lenders.

The university will be on probation for two years during which time commission staff will present to monitor the university’s financial progress.
