Police in Fayette County arrest a suspect they say shot at a Smithers Police Officer.

The chief of the Smithers Police Department said Michael Palmer shot at Sergeant C.L. Burkhammer during a chase.

Palmer was arrested in Fayette County last night.

Burkhammer tried to stop Palmer while driving on Cannellton Hollow Road Saturday night.

Police say Palmer sped off, wrecked the car, and ran into the woods.

Detectives say shots were fired, but Sergeant Burkhammer was not hit.

They say he’s facing felony charges of wanton endangerment for firing at an officer and fleeing from an officer.

The chief says he’s faced similar charges previously in Kanawha County.

Palmer’s bond is set at $50,000.
