Arrests made in Cashmere, WV murder investigation

Troopers with the Union Detachment of the West Virginia State Police have arrested two people in connection with a murder that happened at the end of August.  Gary Lee Byrd,II, 30, of Rich Creek, VA and Rebecca Ellen Page, 34, of Bozoo, WV were arrested on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015.  Byrd is facing charges of Murder, Robbery and Conspiracy.  Page is charged with Aiding and Abetting Murder, Accessory After the Fact, Robbery and Conspiracy.

The investigation began on Aug. 26, 2015 when troopers from the Union Detachment were called to a home in Cashmere, WV.  The initial call was over an unattended death.  The body of 55-year-old Gary Lester was taken to the Office of the State Medical Examiner.  An autopsy confirmed that Lester was stabbed to death.

Cpl. S.S. Keaton with the Union Detachment began an extensive investigation and followed up on a number of leads, which eventually lead him to Byrd and Page.  The investigation is still open.  Byrd is being held in the New River Valley Regional Jail in Dublin, VA on a probation violation for unrelated charges.  He will be extradited back to Monroe County.  Page is being held in the Southern Regional Jail until she can be arraigned.
