You may be used to seeing vacant properties on Neville Street in Uptown Beckley, but on Saturday, that will all change. 59 News spoke with local businesses about Small Business Saturday.
As a small business owner Andrea Radford knows that community support is vital to the success of her Interior Design Business. “It’s really great to see everybody come together and support our local community, because by supporting our local community, they’re not only supporting community, but our families as well,” said Radford, Owner of I.D. 304.
On Saturday, people will be able to do just that. The Beckley Downtown Business Association is hosting their Shop Small Saturday event on November 26th. The event is being held in an effort to revitalize the Beckley Uptown area. “To revitalize Beckley, you have to rent buildings, you have to sell buildings, you have to fill up the empty spaces in downtown. So hopefully that’s what this is going to do,” said Jim Chambers, President of the Downtown Beckley Business Association.
They have roughly twenty businesses signed up for their shop small event on Saturday. The property owners of the building where the event will be held are even allowing the city to use their buildings free of charge. “We have a great city, we enjoy presenting our products and doing things for our city and we hope that the shoppers and the participants in this are very successful,” Chambers added.
