Officials with the West Virginia Division of Highways announced that the New River will be closed to traffic starting on Friday, Aug. 21, 2015. According to District Nine Construction Engineer, Greg, Hylton, the closure will last from 7 a.m. on the 21st until Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015.
The closure extends from the Grandview Sandbar to McCreery. While the river is closed, there will be no commercial or recreational activities allowed in the area. That includes boating, swimming or fishing. The closure is to accommodate continued construction of the Thomas Buford Pugh Memorial Bridge on West Virginia Route 41 in Prince.
