Both lanes of I-77 Southbound were closed briefly on Monday, Dec. 26, 2016 after car caught fire. It happened at around 4:30 p.m. at Mile Marker 27. That is just past the Ghent Toll Booth, also known as Barrier A, on the West Virginia Turnpike.
According to West Virginia 511, a web site from the Department of Transportation, one lane was back open shortly after firefighters arrived on the scene. The Southbound lanes of the interstate have seen heavy traffic throughout the day as travelers headed home after the Christmas and Hanukkah weekend. Both lanes were reopened about 30 minutes after the initial report, but traffic was still moving slowly.
