The Fayette County Office of Emergency Management is advising drivers about construction on the New River Gorge Bridge. The work is expected to begin on Monday, March 7, 2016 and will last until Oct. 13, 2016. The work is being done on the under-decking of the bridge. Concrete barriers will be set up closing the right lane. The maximum width that will be able to move across the bridge will be 14-feet 6-inches.
While the construction is going on, there will be new traffic patterns in both the North and South bound lanes. Drivers who using the bridge should be alert and expect delays as well as traffic congestion. Officials said the bridge will remain open while the work is going on. According to Sharon Cruikshank with the New River Gorge Convention and Visitors Bureau, the construction will not effect the annual Bridge Day event in any way.
