Contraband smuggling investigated at Stevens Correctional Facility


McDowell County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a case of smuggling contraband into Stevens Correctional Facility in Welch, WV.  Investigators said they found around $12,000 worth of items on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015.  The items that were found included smoking tobacco, smokeless tobacco and saw blades.

The contraband was found in two separate locations.  The first was behind the maintenance shed at Stevens Correctional Facility. The second was near the West Virginia Division of Highways headquarters in Havaco.

The investigation is being handled by the West Virginia Division of Corrections and the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.  It is still open, and arrest warrants are expected to be issued in the near future.
