Copy-One person transported after being struck by train in Charleston

CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – A man hit by a train Wednesday afternoon in Charleston is being treated for his injuries at CAMC General.

65-year-old William Woody, of Charleston, was found lying on the gravel beside the railroad tracks after being struck by a CSX train on the 2300 block of Chesterfield Avenue, in Charleston.

According to the train engineer, he noticed what appeared to be someone lying on the tracks and applied the brakes and began to sound the horn.

The engineer stated the victim attempted to move from the tracks, but was unsuccessful and was struck by the train.

The train then came to a stop and remained on scene until authorities arrived. The victim was transported to CAMC General where he is currently being treated for his injuries. 

Charleston Police and Charleston Fire responded to the incident.

CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – Crews are on the scene after a person was hit by a train in Kanawha City today, according to dispatchers.

The incident occurred near the 2300 block of Chesterfield Avenue at roughly 2 p.m.

Dispatchers say the victim was transported to a nearby hospital.

Their condition is unknown at this time.

The Charleston Police Department, Charleston Fire Department, and Charleston EMS responded to the incident.
