David Horak comes to 59News from Michigan, where he grew up near the capital city of Lansing. It was Vin Scully’s storytelling, Jim Nantz’s showmanship, Brent Musburger’s down-to-earth persona, Gus Johnson’s energy, and Ernie Harwell’s genuine love for the game that inspired him to chase a career in broadcasting. The pursuit paid off for David when he started attending Valparaiso University (Valparaiso, IN).

From the moment he stepped foot on campus as a freshman, he was thoroughly involved with the on-campus, student-run radio (WVUR-FM) & television stations (VUTV) while playing three seasons for the Valparaiso football team as an offensive & defensive lineman.

On the radio airwaves at WVUR-FM, David provided play-by-play, color commentary, sideline reports and studio scoreboard updates for Valparaiso basketball, baseball, soccer, softball and volleyball games. As for the television screen at VUTV, he anchored the weekly newscast, co-starred in a sports talk show, and overlooked station productions.

David also spent summer 2016 at WLNS-TV (Lansing, MI) as a sports intern, where he covered amateur golf tournaments, local high schools, and high-profile Michigan-based teams. The following May, he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Media with a focus in Sports Broadcasting.

When not clocked in at 59News, David enjoys weightlifting, swimming, biking, fishing, and travelling down memory lane on his PlayStation & Nintendo 64. He also considers himself a music man who sings, plays the piano, and discovers music new and old of all genres.
