Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputies are searching for a light skinned black man who they said took less than $1,000 from the Country Store in Glenwood. It happened on Thursday July 23, 2015. Sgt. Steven Sommers said it’s being investigated as a petit larceny case. The suspect went into the store and approached the register as if he was going to buy something. Deputies said when the clerk opened the register, the suspect reached in and took the money and left the store. He’s in his early to mid-thirties. There was no violence or threat of violence. A man who lives in Glenwood said he wasn’t surprised when he heard about what happened.
Roger Lester said ,”You reach a point of saturation that it’s inevitable that this is going to happen and it did, right close.”
For others, it puts them on edge.
Bev. Thorne said, “My concerns as far as going to local stores, being a female walking to the car having my back to people while trying to load my car, you never know when someone is going to walk up to you and grab your purse or worse.”
The suspect is about 5’7 and was last seen wearing a green shirt and shorts. Anyone with information can call the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department.
