Dinner And Ceremony Held To Honor Local First Responders In Mercer County


A dinner and ceremony was held on Sunday September 13, 2015 in Bluefield to honor those who protect and serve the community in Mercer County.  It was held at the Bluefield Elks Lodge 269.   All active first responders who attended were eligible to receive the $1,000 Excellence On Duty Award. 

Ken Kormendy with the West Virginia Elks Association said, “Ever since the next year after 911, we’ve been putting this on.  It’s been a yearly thing and we look forward to it.  We get very excited about it.  It’s only one day out of the year but we thank our first responders 365 days out of the year.”

The event started at 3 p.m.
