With snow in our forecast on Thursday December 29, 2016, workers at the Division of Highways are prepared to clear the roads. Crews in Mercer County told 59News they’ve already done equipment checks. They’ve also checked their inventory of salt. Acting District 10 Maintenance Engineer Joe Pack said they will be out salting and clearing the roads as soon as the snow comes down. They cover Mercer, McDowell ,Wyoming, and Raleigh Counties. Pack said they have 42,000 tons of salt ready to cover those areas.
Pack said, “The only thing we’d ask everyone is as usual to try to be careful as possible for the traveling public. Our guys are driving a truck just like they are. Give us room to work. Give enough space behind our truck as possible. We are putting material out the back and give us space to do our job and we’ll get the roads cleared as quickly as we can.”
Pack said they are prepared for their snow removal and ice control operations.
