Officers with the Mount Hope Police Department were involved in a police chase that crossed county lines on Monday, April 25, 2016. Patrolman Levi Garrettson was alerted to Chevy Trailblazer traveling on Route 19 at around 4 p.m.  The driver of the SUV was apparently drunk and swerving in and out of traffic.

When officers tried to pull him over, he sped away and got off of Route 19 in Raleigh County.  He pulled in the parking lot of Appalachian Heating, then put the vehicle in reverse and nearly hit the Mount Hope Police cruiser before he stopped.

Officers arrested Charles David Eastridge of Pipestem, WV.  They said his blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit.  He is facing charges of Fleeing While DUI, Second Offense Driving on a Revoked License for DUI, Third Offense DUI. He is also wanted in Virginia, but officials said the Commonwealth will not seek extradition.  Eastridge was taken to the Southern Regional Jail where he is being held on $5,000 bond.
