The Magistrate’s Office told 59News on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015 that murder suspect Camille Brown won’t be back in court for awhile because she’s undergoing a mental evaluation. In an exclusive interview with 59News, friends of the accused killer talked about the side of Camille Brown the public hasn’t seen. A daughter, a friend, a vibrant teenager who competed in beauty pageants.
Those closest to Camille said they were shocked when police told them Camille had committed a horrific crime.
“She was just really, really kind. That’s why I just can’t – no matter how much I think about it – I can’t figure out a situation that I could put her in, where any of it makes any sense,” said Tori Peck.
Tori Peck is her childhood friend, and she said the entire thing feels like it’s out of a movie.
“To me, it literally feels like somebody made up a story or something and put it on the news because it’s just so completely out of character for who she is,” said Peck.
Camille’s childhood babysitter, April Brown, said she’s still in shock.
“I have people calling me saying you know, was that the girl on the news, that sweet girl? Everybody’s confused. Everybody wants answers. She’s literally like one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met,” said April Brown.
Camille’s friends said she had a kind and gentle spirit. She even wanted to make a career out of helping others.
“I was with her like a few days before this happened. And she was just the same, ya know. She talked about becoming a missionary. She always had a heart to help people,” said April Brown.
The girl friends and family described paints quite a different picture than the gruesome crime scene police said they found.
“Even down to the picture of her that they’re using. She doesn’t look like she’s there. She looks like she’s completely out of it. She doesn’t look like she even really knows what’s going on. So, I just, I can’t really put it into perspective. I can’t really put that person with what happened because it doesn’t fit to me at all,” said Peck.
59News asked Camille’s friends what they think happened on the day of the murder.
“The only thing I can really think of is that she’s sick,” said Peck.
“I don’t know why she would have snapped. There was nothing leading up to it. She was perfectly normal, her happy self that she had always been,” said April Brown.
