Farmers in Need Receive Hay Donations, Donors in Need of Help

For farmers in need in Greenbrier County, bales of hay are being donated by the truckload. Thursday, September 15th, a few farmers were the lucky recipients.

Southern States has made a list of farmers that need hay to make it through the winter and are giving it away free of charge. Organizers said they have a lot of farmers from all over Virginia willing to donate, but need help transporting the bales.

“One of our biggest needs is the trucking. We have a lot of hay donated but it’s hard to get it here. What we could really use in the Lewisburg/Beckley area is if we have people who have trucks that could contact us and come and pick it up. We’ll load it for them and it’s free all they have to do is come get it,” said Darryl Armstrong, a trucker who came up with the idea to donate hay.

If you are a farmer in need, or a trucker looking to help, call southern states in Ronceverte and ask for Kevin.
