A lot of activity has people talking in the Beaver area of Raleigh County, Thursday.
59News crews have spotted agents with the Drug Enforcement, West Virginia State Police and even the FBI on scene at the Hope Clinic PLLC on Lockheed Drive in Beaver.
It appears the agents are conducting a search. 59News has made a call to U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin’s office. He said he can confirm that federal law enforcement agents are conducting a federal operation at the Hope Clinic. Goodwin, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia, said he cannot comment further. Our crews have seen agents taking box after box of records out of the clinic. The nature of the investigation will not be released at this time.
Earlier this month, 59News told you about three pain management clinics, closed for failing to comply with a law aimed at reducing substance abuse.
A 2012 law gave the Department of Health and Human Resources oversight over pain clinic licensure and codified patient and health safety.
Since January, the department’s Office of Health Facilities Licensure and Certification revoked the licenses of the Hope Clinic’s Charleston branch, Beckley Pain Clinic and the pain management operation of Med-Surg Group in Beckley.
At that time we were told the licensing office will continue a review of applicants until all facilities either comply or move patients to other facilities.
