The New River Gorge National River hosted a BBQ & Bluegrass fundraiser to help send kids to camp.
As a child, some of Beth Fish’s favorite memories were made at Camp Brookside.
“I actually grew up going to Camp Brookside from a baby on. It was truly the best memories of my life. We would have chosen that over going to the beach or any other vacation,” said Fish.
Proceeds from the event will help provide scholarships to send kids to summer camp at Brookside Environmental Education Center.
“I’m so excited there are children that get to do that now, just like I did when I was a kid,” Fish added.
Friends of the New River Gorge has made Camp Brookside their main fundraising goal. As the organization’s treasurer, Ray Moeller hopes many area children will get to experience the camp’s programs through their scholarships
“We feel like it’s very important that the youth be raised to have an appreciation for the value and the complexity of the natural activities that go on around them,” said Moeller.
