WEST VIRGINIA (WVNS)- The annual Ginseng harvest season begins today September, 1, 2017 in West Virginia.

The state Department of Commerce reminds diggers to only harvest ginseng roots with three or more prongs, because these are old enough for harvest.

The harvest ends on November 30th, but diggers have until March 31, 2018 to sell the roots to state registered dealers.

Ginseng must be certified before leaving the state. Only registered dealers can obtain proper certification to transport ginseng across state lines.
