The crowning of the new Mountaineer brings special excitement for a family here in Southern West Virginia.
The Clemons family is from Greenbrier County, and today they are beaming with pride as their son Troy was announced as the West Virginia University Mountaineer last night.
They say it was an announcement they will never forget, especially since they have been going to WVU games for as long as they can remember.
Emily Norman is the sister of the new mountaineer. She says the entire family is ecstatic for her brother.
“He said it took a second to realize that it was him and he went running out on the court and grabbed the musket and you could just see it in his eyes he was thrilled. We were all so proud of him,” she says.
Norman says that becoming the new mountaineer was no small feat for her brother. It meant writing essays, interviewing, and cheering before he was chosen to represent WVU.
