Katy Andersen is the weekday morning anchor at 59 News. She joined the 59 News team in August 2017 after working as a reporter and weekend anchor in Huntington/Charleston, West Virginia.
Katy was born and raised just outside of Atlanta, Georgia. She also spent part of her life in Knoxville, Tennessee. When she was in high school she moved to Chillicothe, Ohio where she graduated from Chillicothe High School. That’s where Katy found her love for storytelling and journalism.
Katy attended the E. W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University to pursue her dream of becoming a broadcast journalist. In college, she was fortunate to experience several amazing opportunities including studying abroad while working for a radio station in Leipzig, Germany and interning at two Columbus news stations- WSYX ABC6 and WBNS-10TV. She also traveled to Brazil with the U.S. Men’s Soccer team during the 2014 World Cup as a videographer where she created content for the team’s website and social media pages.
Her passions include traveling whether it’s to another state or country and good food- she’s always open to suggestions! Katy is a thrill-seeker and loves to white water raft, skydive, zip-line and ride roller-coasters. On the weekends, you can find her spending quality time with friends, family and her English Bulldog, Maggie.
During her career, Katy has reported on a wide-range of stories from Presidential visits to devastating floods. Her goal as a journalist is to give people a voice to share their stories, passions and concerns.
