Crews with the Virginia Department of Highways expect all lanes on Interstate 77 near the East River Mountain tunnel to reopen by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2016. One southbound lane was closed during the day while repairs were made to the bridge just outside the tunnel at Mile Marker 66.9.
Originally the lane was expected to be closed overnight. A tweet from the VDOT office in Bristol, VA at around 2 p.m. announced the repairs were complete and the closure would remain in place until 4:30 p.m. That was to allow time for the concrete used in the repairs to cure.
