All lanes are back open in the northbound lanes on I-77 in Bland County after a tractor-trailer fire. Troopers from the Virginia State Police Department said lanes opened back up just after 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday September 9, 2015. It happened just a few feet from the East River Mountain Tunnel near mile-marker 62. 59News spoke to the driver. He said he lost everything he had in the fire. He said he was hauling automotive parts. Troopers said the fire started in the engine. The call came in at 4:20 p.m. Injuries are not being reported.
Sgt Lee Testerman with the Virginia State Police Department said, “All the agencies that responded worked very well together from our fire departments, the tunnel crew here with VDOT, and our wrecker services along with state police personnel. Everyone did their job in a very professional and quick manner.”
Motorist can expect delays if you’re traveling on I- 77 northbound near the East River Mountain tunnel. There’s been a tractor trailer to catch on fire at the entrance of tunnel.
One lane is reopen at this time.
