LATEST: Victim of fatal Beckley shooting identified


3:30 p.m. Aug. 19, 2015 UPDATE:

Detectives with the Beckley Police Department were called to a shooting on Plumley Ave. at 12:03 a.m on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015.  When they arrived they found Jevonte Jennings, 22, of Detroit, MI with multiple gunshot wounds.  Jennings was taken to Raleigh General Hospital, where police said he later died of his injuries.  Investigators said Jennings had been living in the home for a short time.

The Detective Bureau is investigating and following up on leads. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Beckley Police Department at 304-256-1720 or CrimeStoppers at 304-255-STOP (7867).  Cash rewards will be paid for information leading to an arrest.

UPDATE: (08/19/15 5:11 a.m.): Police confirmed that the shooting victim, who has been identified as a 22-year-old male, died from his injuries. No suspects have been taken into custody.

ORIGINAL STORY: One person was critically injured after being shot in the chest in Beckley early Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015. The person was taken to Raleigh General Hospital, according to officers on scene.

The shooting happened on Plumley Avenue around midnight. Law enforcement spent several hours interviewing those in the area. 

Beckley Police are handling the investigation.
