Local Students Collect Shoes for Harvey Victims

With the devastation left behind from Hurricane Harvey, many people living in Texas have nothing.

One local school in Raleigh County is working to change that. Students at Shady Spring Middle School have started collecting gently used shoes as a part of an organization, Soles 4 Souls.

The organization distributes 30 million shoes to the less fortunate. This year 7th graders at Shady Spring Middle School have made it their mission to help.

“It was because of the students and their excitement that this whole project developed,” a Teacher at Shady Spring Middle School, Stacey Stump said.

“It just makes me feel good giving them what I don’t need anymore,” a student, Connor Miller. “It means a lot to me because it’s not everyday you get to give back to people in need,” a student, Alexis Redden said.

As of Wednesday (9/6) students have collected 84 shoes, but they will be collecting them until October 6th. Their goal is 2017 pairs of shoes.

If you would like to help them reach their goal you can bring shoes to home football games.
