A families safety is in question after a man breaks into their cars.
“Nobody’s ever bothered anything around here since we’ve been here,” Brenda Scott said.
According to a criminal complaint, Scott and her sister’s cars were tampered with, earlier in last month. Scott said her sisters cars took most of the damage.
“Dreama’s car was locked and there was an empty purse, but they broke a piece off the car and bent the metal on the car, I think with a hunting knife? And Sharon’s they just reached in and pulled her purse out,” she said.
The criminal complaint said Sharon’s credit cards were stolen and that the suspect tried using the cards at the Bank of Mount Hope ATM across the street. On scene, officers found a silver knife in the grass across from the ATM.
“But they didn’t have the PIN number of course,” Scott said.
On Halloween, Mount Hope police officers arrested Tyrone Paul Bass in connection the break ins. Bass is charged with Breaking and Entering of Vehicles, several counts of Tampering with Automobiles, Destruction of Property, Larceny, and several counts of Fraud with a Access Device.
Officers tell us more charges for Bass are currently pending.
