A King Coal Highway Authority meeting was on Thursday October 20, 2016 in Princeton.  Executive Director of King Coal Highway I-73/74 Authority Mike Mitchem said a 4 1/2 mile section has been completed in Mingo County, but still needs to be paved.  He said the section in Mercer County  will be completed by 2019 and that will go to the Mercer County Airport.  We are told It’s in a 6 year plan.  It runs from Bluefield to Williamson.

Mitchem said, “There’s going to be more economic development because when you have a highway four-lane, the cost is a lot less for your goods coming into the counties.”

Once the Mercer County section is completed, Mitchem says it will only take about 40 to 45 minutes to get to Bluefield from Welch.
