Mercer County school bus hit by drunk driver


Students traveling home from school had some scary moments at around 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015.  According to Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputies, a drunk driver hit a school bus.  

It happened on Simmons Ave in North Bramwell.  There were six middle school aged children on the bus when it was hit by a red Chevy Cavalier.  The driver, Carl Johnson, was taken to Bluefield Regional Medical Center with a leg injury.  Troopers charged him with Driving Under the Influence.  

The children and the school bus driver were not hurt.  The investigation is being handled by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department and the West Virginia State Police.
