An accident at a coal mine in McDowell County on Monday, Aug. 14, 2017 sent one man to the hospital. According to the West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health Safety and Training (WV OMHS&T) the incident happened at the Pay Car #57 underground mine in Kimball, WV.
The initial information shows that a miner suffered a severe shock from electricity. It was reported at around 2:30 p.m. to the Mine and Industrial Rapid Response System. The miner was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center where he was treated and released. The name of the victim has not been released.
Crews from Kimball Volunteer Fire Department and JanCare Ambulance responded to the scene. The accident is being investigated by inspectors with the WV OMHS&T. The active is mine active at this time.
