Schools in Fayette County have a large number of vacant positions ahead of the start of the upcoming academic year. As of Tuesday, July 28, 2015, the school board had 42 open spots. Collins Middle School currently has the highest number of vacant positions with eleven.
“When you become a parent, one thing you take for granted is that you can give them a good education,” said Shawna Sparks, a mother of four children who attend schools in the county. “I’m very concerned and very worried.”
59News attempted to reach out to the superintendent of the school system, but he was unavailable for comment. Earlier this year, a multi-million school bond was struck down overwhelmingly by voters.
Anyone interested in applying for a position can do so before the end of the month. School starts in Fayette County on Aug. 13.
