NEW DETAILS: Suspect in Beckley murder case pleads guilty


3:45 p.m. Oct. 25, 2016 UPDATE:

A murder suspect pleaded guilty to several charges connected to the death of Chante Shivers in uptown Beckley.  Charmaine Kent went before Circuit Judge H.L. Kirkpatrick on Tuesday.  She admitted to a pair of charges in the death of Chante Shivers, including Accessory After the Fact and Wanton Endangerment.

She could serve from one to 10 years in prison when she is sentenced.  That is scheduled to take place on Dec. 15 at 9 a.m.

4:45 p.m. Sept. 21, 2016 UPDATE:

The September grand jury in Raleigh County returned indictments for Charmaine Kent, and Christopher Jones.  They are charged with First Degree Murder and nearly a dozen counts of Malicious Wounding in connection with the death of Chante Shivers near the Wildfire Saloon at the end of January.

7:50 a.m. June 9, 2016 UPDATE:

The second suspect in the Neville street shooting is now back in West Virginia.

Christopher Jones was extradited to West Virginia from Columbus, Ohio on June 8, 2016. He was arraigned in Raleigh County Magistrate Court and will be held without bond until his hearing in the Raleigh County Circuit Court

2 p.m. Feb. 12, 2016 UPDATE:

The search for a second person wanted in a murder investigation from Beckley, WV was arrested in Columbus, OH.  On Friday, Feb. 12, 2016 the U.S. Marshals Task Force in Columbus arrested Christopher Jones.  Jones was wanted in connection with the death of Chante Shivers who was killed near the Wildfire Saloon on Neville St at the end of January.

The other suspect in the case, Charmaine Kent was previously arrested in Columbus.  She was extradited back the West Virginia on Thursday, Feb. 11.  According to Beckley Police Detectives, Jones will be returned to the mountain state in the coming weeks to face charges for Shivers murder.

UPDATE: Detective Morgan Bragg with the Beckley Police Department confirmed Charmaine Kent was extradited back to West Virginia on 2/11/2016 and was arraigned the same day. She is being held without bond in Southern Regional Jail pending a hearing in circuit court.

The second suspect Christopher Jones is still at large.  

Beckley Police Department are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred Saturday morning.

Authorities say the victim was 21-year-old Chantaye Shivers. Detectives say an altercation occurred around the Wildfire Saloon on Neville Street in Beckley. Shivers was pronounced dead and two others were injured, One person has been released  from the hospital and the other is in stable condition.

Detectives are looking for Columbus, Ohio residents, Christopher Jones and Charmaine Kent. Both will be charged with first degree murder, 2 counts of malicious wounding, 10 counts counts of wanted endangerment, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

According to detectives with the Beckley Police Department, three people were hit by gunfire near the Wildfire Saloon on Neville Street in the overnight hours between Friday, Jan. 29 and Saturday morning.  Detectives say the victims were taken to a nearby hospital, their names and conditions have not been released at this time.
