New municipal sales tax brings in revenue

As of July 1st, Princeton and Bluefield have been collecting a 1% Municipal Sales Tax. The West Virginia State Tax Department collects the tax from businesses inside city limits and then gives the money back to the cities to help pay for various city services.

The cities did have to lower other taxes to make up for this new tax. The City of Princeton reduced its Retail Business and Occupation Tax by 30 percent.
