Baby birds preparing to leave the nest. Many just graduating high school several weeks ago, now it’s time to take on college.
“It’s nice to actually visit uptown Beckley and look around and see the new campus here and just experience all the new people,” Joshua James said.
James won’t be going to far from home. He’s originally from Oak Hill and is deciding between criminal justice or biology at WVU Beckley.
Lucky for him since, The Dominion Post reports that resident undergraduate tuition and fees will increase over four percent on the Morgantown campus to about $4,000 per semester starting next fall.
“It obviously saves me a lot of money where I can stay at home and not have to pay for dorms and such,” he said.
Saturday was one of several registration days WVU Beckley is hosting leading up to the fall semester. Everything from touring the new campus to getting registered for classes and financial aid.
“Our job is to bring them in, make them successful, and walk them across the stage and give them a diploma so this is the beginning of that process and it’s exciting,” WVU Beckley campus president Carolyn Long said.
