Interstate 64 East is shutdown in Huntington this morning and will be closed for several hours.

An accident that involved police officers and one person has been killed as I-64 has been roped off with police tape.  The driver who rear ended the police cruiser has passed away. The accident happened around 3:30am.

From the scene, our Tom Rader tweeted: “One driver dead after crashing into a HPD cruiser on construction zone duty. 2 officers transported to hospital.”

The officers involved have been sent to area hospitals from the accident.  Their K9 officer in the vehicle is okay and is still on the scene.

This is going to cause a big traffic nightmare.  You’ll be directed off of I-64 east at the Hal Greer exit/entrance ramp and through Huntington.  You’ll have to travel down route 60 and enter at the 29th Street/60 on ramp.
