One Law Firm in Beckley Holds an Open House After a Destructive Fire


One business in Beckley burned to the ground 4 years ago reopens.

“January 2nd 2012 we lost everything in a fire,” says the Owner of Mize Law Firm, John Mize.

For the past 4 years, owner Mize has been working to recover from the devastating incident. “It was difficult I will tell you that but the fact we were able to persevere and finish a beautiful product,” says Mize.

As a lawyer Mize has seen ashes and flames turn into what is now a dream. The building has been totally redone from the bottom up and the as the owner has high hopes. “I’m hoping it will give other people confidence to bring them downtown to hope spend their money to help beautify downtown,” says Mize.

The business also works to spread joy to the entire community this holiday season as they partner up with toys for tots. “It’s a wonderful charity, I believe 97 percent of all donations go to local kids,” says Mize.

After the floods, Mize understand this year hasn’t been an easy one for many families. “Kids this year need more than ever, families need to pick between thanksgiving. Christmas, and paying the bills,” says Mize.

Despite such a destructive events, Mize says he’s here to stay in Beckley. “Part of building this building is to give Beckley the confidence that I’m here and I’m not going to go away,” says Mize.
