This year is the first time that the Pelicans have spent their training week away from New Orleans. And while some of the players have never been to the Mountain State before, they all seem to see the time away from home as a good experience, especially when it comes to team bonding.
Eric Gordon, a member of the team says, “the team has been together for a while but it is always good to get away and stay away from friends and family and just focus on the team.”
The Pelicans took a page from the New Orleans Saints playbook and decided the Greenbrier Resort was a good facility to spend the week. Although the hotel does not usually have basketball facilities on site, the indoor tennis area was transformed in to professional caliber basketball courts for the team.
Last season the Pelicans saw 4 playoff games before losing to the 20-15 Champions, the Golden State Warriors. This year, forward Anthony Davis has high expectations for the team. He says with a new coach and the confidence of making the playoffs last year, the season should end even better than 2014s.
Davis says, “We had a great season but I want to do more this season. Getting a taste of the playoffs really helped us out with our confidence. Hopefully we can get back there this year. But, you know, just getting a taste of that playoffs got everybody excited for this upcoming season, got excited for today.”
The Pelicans training camp at the Greenbrier goes until October 2nd. From there, the team begins their preseason play facing the Indiana Pacers on October 3rd in Indianapolis.
