Pres. Obama announces new plan on prescribing drug addiction

The Obama administration issues a proposed rule aimed at increasing medication-based treatment for thousands of people dealing with opioid addiction. The rule would increase required training for prescribing opioids.

The President is seeking 1.1 billion dollars in funding to help confront the problem of drug abuse.

Senator Joe Manchin says he’s proud the president stepped up to the plate.

Manchin said, “He was invited and he came to West Virginia because we are the most addicted state. We have more deaths from legal prescription drug overdose than any other state per capital. He came here and he declared war on these opioid drugs that are basically ruining people’s lives.”

In 2014, deaths linked in opioids were more than 29,000 setting a record.
