Darrius Cook was arrested by police at around one Sunday morning, January 24th, 2016, according to detectives with the Beckley Police Department.
Cook was wanted in connection to a shooting that occurred on January 14th, 2016 at the Lewis-Ritchie Apartment complex.
According to the criminal complaint, officers with the Beckley Police Department received an anonymous tip saying that Cook was driving a silver Kia Forte, later in the night officers spotted Cook on South Kanawha Street in Beckley.
The complaint states as the officers initiated the traffic stop, the passenger door opened and Cook ran away. As officers were chasing, the complaint states that the officers noticed Cook reach at his waist band for what the officers thought was a weapon. The officer then deployed his taser, striking Cook and he was then taken into custody.
Cook is charged with attempted first degree murder, 8 counts of wanton endangerment and unlawful possession of a firearm. He is being held in the Southern Regional Jail on a $200,000 bond.
