As people brace for Irma – many are still picking up the pieces from Hurricane Harvey. 59 News is teaming up with the American Red Cross for a blood drive September 8th at the Crossroads Mall in Beckley. Our team will be out at the mall all day from 12:30 to 6:30, next to the entrance of JC Penney. Blood is in such high demand recovering from Harvey there is a need to replenish the blood bank. Account manager Amanda Lawrence says the Red Cross wants to be ready before the disaster happens.
“They went ahead before the hurricane happened and they sent the blood for that so now we’re restoring the blood bank that they already depleted from before the hurricanes start,” said Lawrence
Lawrence says to be sure you are well hydrated and have eaten good meal before coming to donate. The entire process takes about an hour.
The 59 news team will be out at the crossroads mall broadcasting live all afternoon, on September 8th.
