Residents respond to fatal shooting

Two shootings in less than a week in Beckley, this time it’s fatal.
“You kind of wonder are we safe here?” Troy Hall, a resident on Plumey Avenue said.

Detectives identified 22 year old Jevonte Jennings as the victim in Wednesday’s early morning shooting. Officers found Jennings with multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Raleigh General Hospital where he died from his injuries. Hall was sitting in his living room.

“Heard the cop cars go up the street with the lights and sirens and looked and watched an ambulance go up the street and hadn’t heard any disturbances before that,” he said.

But since he’s lived there, he can’t remember the last time something like this happened.

“It’s quiet we don’t have any problems with anyone so it’s not a big issue, I don’t feel scared going outside or walking up the street or anything along those lines,” Hall said.
If anyone has any information regarding the shooting, you’re urged to call the Beckley Police Department at 304-256-1708 or Crimestoppers at 304-255-STOP (7867).
