There’s a new scholarship that’s raising awareness about domestic violence. It’s called the Minnat Scholarship. The scholarship is in memory of Natalee Nighten and Mindy Dickerson who were both victims of domestic violence. Nighten passed away in 2010 and Dickerson passed away in 2005. They were both cheerleaders at Richlands High School and graduated together. A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a cheerleader at Richlands High School.
Brent Warner is the co-director of the scholarship and also the cousin of Nighten.
Warner said, “My family has become advocates for domestic violence awareness and trying to get the word out just so other people don’t have this. We want to get this started younger and younger and the high school seemed like the best place to do it so not only can we help someone out with a scholarship, but we can also raise awareness.”
Anyone wishing to donate to this scholarship can contact Brent Warner on his Facebook page.
