Our sister station WOWK reports a Mingo County man has been arrested and charged with firing shots at State Troopers.
Shadallen Birchfield, 32, has been charged with 6 counts each of attempted murder, wanton endangerment, and 3 counts of battery on a police officer, following an incident that took place outside his home near Isaban in Mingo County.
Troopers were initially called to the residence shortly after 11 p.m. Friday night in a response to a heated dispute that had occurred between Birchfield and a neighbor.
Upon arrival, a relative of Birchfield’s came out and spoke with troopers. Birchfield exited his trailer and began firing at law enforcement. Troopers sought cover behind their cruiser and fired four rounds back at Birchfield, but no shots found their mark. Troopers were pinned down behind their cruiser for roughly 30 minutes.
There has been no word on exactly how the ordeal came to an end, but Birchfield was arrested and is being held at the Southwestern Regional Jail without bond.
We will update as information as it becomes available.
