Suspect in 2014 murder arrested


     A man wanted for the murder was arrested February 20, 2016. Corte Lawson was arrested at the Baymont Inn on Harper Road following a brief standoff with the Beckley Police Department and US Marshal Violent Fugitive Task Force. Det. David Allard with the Beckley Police Department tells us that Sgt. Will Reynolds negotiated with Lawson who surrendered without incident. A handgun and a small amount of marijuana was also recovered at the hotel.
     Lawson was wanted by the Oak Hill Police Department for the murder of Franklin Borders. Borders was shot and killed, in November of 2014, in Oak Hill. He is one of several people facing charges in correlation to Borders death.  
     Joseph Lawson was taken into custody by West Virginia State Police in January of 2015. Lawson is also being charged with murder. Another suspect in this case, Quantel Saunders is currently in prison on other charges. Officers are still looking for Sabrina Gray of Oak Hill in relation to Borders death.
     Corte Lawson is currently being held at the Beckley Police Department awaiting his arraignment.
