On September 23rd, another community came together today to walk for a cause in Raleigh County. The Alzheimer’s Association held their annual fundraiser this morning. People met at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center to raise funds. Participants walked 1.6 miles in hopes to put an end to the disease. Walk Coordinator Nicole Nesmith says this fundraiser is the best way to spread awareness.
“This is huge to have the community come out and support this because we have our goal here of 375 participants today, so that’s 375 people we can touch,” said Nesmith.
Margot Basham has been participating in the Alzheimer’s walk for years now. Last year she raised nearly $3,500, she says it’s all for a great cause.
“I just wish they could find a cure for that deadly disease,” said Basham.
The goal for the walk was to raise $31,000. Officials will have totals on Monday, September 25th, but as of now they are just $3,000 short of their goal.
