The 10th anniversary of Juneteenth Multicultural Festivities kicked off Thursday, June 16, 2016 and continues over the weekend. Friday’s festivities included the Kid’s Festival at the Youth Museum. Event organizers say this is a great way to enlighten children on our history.
“Personally I feel it’s a unique and great opportunity for the children to be exposed to their culture and their history, it’s very important, it’s very significant, they need to know that. How can you go forward without knowing your past,” Wendy Pannell, a committee member for the Juneteenth celebration.
The event continues on Saturday with a cemetery restoration at Hunter’s Graveyard at the corner of South Fayette Street and Antonio Avenue.
